Our History
Tilaknagar as a Housing Complex came into existence in the year 1954 during the time when MHADA thought of constructing colonies for the working class in the Mumbai Metro. At that time even to pierce a nail in the walls of our own house, one had to seek the permission of MHADA. The families staying here wished to construct a Mandir to seek solace from their social and emotional needs , but MHADA , unaware of the growing discontentment among the people, used to curb the sentiments of the general public by bringing forth the issues of various laws and regulations. Exactly at this time some Seniors took the onus of constructing a Mandir in this residential colony. The construction of this Mandir was filled with many challenges that were overcome by the sheer grit and determination of the sincere team which believed in the strength of Lord Hanuman while constructing this shrine in his devotion. Amidst Police security MHADA has time and again tried to raze the Mandir to its ground but the local people have unitedly stood firm to protect the Mandir and preserved the sanctity of the same. This is one of the oldest and most famous Mandir of Tilak nagar and has established itself in the hearts and souls of a very large ever – growing strength of devotees. This has only been possible because of the faith they repose in Lord Hanuman through the religious walls of this Mandir. The activities of the Mandir are in keeping with the needs and requirements of its devotees and are carried out taking care that proper religious rites and procedures are maintained and upheld. Today in the most modern and accessible medium of communication – which is the Website, I would like to give you all an introduction of the different Mandirs that are housed in this Mandir and some information about the various festivals that take place during the year. At this Mandir we have shrines of Lord Hanuman, Lord Ganapati, Lord Shankar, Maa Parvati, Lord Dattaguru and Maa Shitaladevi and everyday various pujas take place in their honour. Similarly if a devotee wants to carry out a separate puja he/she is guided accordingly. Mass Abhisheks and Laghurudra is also carried out at times. For the benefit of the Devotees we have housed a permanent Guruji in the Mandir. Among the annual festivals Mahashivratri, Gudipadva, Shri Hanuman Jayanti , Vatpournima, Ashadh ekadashi, Shri Krishna Janmashtami and Shravani Somwaar are celebrated traditionally. Of these Mahashivratri, Shri Hanuman Jayanti and Shardiya Navratriutsav are celebrated with lots of pomp and fervour. On Mahashivratri, mass Laghurudra takes place in the Mandir and many devotees participate in the same. Hordes of people visit the Mandir on this day and there is a festive and jubilant spirit in and around the Mandir. During Hanuman Jayanti Celebrations we plan a palkhi procession with various artists from different states of Maharashtra showcasing their talents and making it a Grand Event. During Navratriutsav , Ghatasthapana takes place at the mandir and for all the nine days we plan different religious and cultural functions like Bhajans, Haldikumkum, Gondhal, Kumarika Pujan, Garbaa, the very likable ‘ Maa ka Jagraataa’ and the most famous ‘Tilak nagar Home Minister’ which is enjoyed by women of all ages. We also have different cults of Narendra Maharaj Mandal, Aai Kalavati, Shri Swami Samarth reaching out to the people by their bhajans, satsangs, Baal Sanskaar teachings etc. On Public Demand, the volunteers of the Mandir have set a social example by recently forming the ‘Renuka Vadhuwar Mandal’ and are trying to reach out to parents facing constraints / difficulties while trying to fix marriages of their sons / daughters. We also offer free counselling sessions to these prospective brides and grooms. Any and all devotees are welcome to contribute their suggestions and proposals for the betterment of the Mandir in an effort to improve the quality of devotional services provided by the Mandir. Lets all strive towards this Goal…….

Our Mentor

For Late Shri Pramod Shirwalkar
The Tilak Nagar Hanuman Mandir was set up with the true devotional feelings so as to provide a platform to the many devotees.
During the course of its development it was taken under the wings of none other than the Late Shri Pramod Shirwalkar ji who then took on the mantle entrusted to him as a founder father of the Holy Place.
Being the elected leader of the locality he gave fruit to the aspirations of the devotees and played the principle role in the further activities of the Temple and was the main force behind the upkeep of the sanctity of the Mandir.
The trustees appreciate his efforts and promise to carry on the good work in the upkeep of this place of prayers where one’s good wishes are blessed by our Lord Hanuman.
